South Wales Basketball League

South Wales Basketball League was renamed in 1999/2000 season, replacing the Rhondda League. It consists of both adult and junior leagues and teams come from all across South Wales. The season runs from mid September until early May, and various cups run alongside the leagues. April is an exciting time with end of season playoffs and cup finals dominating the fixtures.

Basketball is one of many sports that has seen a rise in interest over recent years. I spoke to Gavin Lewis from South Wales Basketball Association who explained, “There has definitely been an increase in the amount of people playing basketball as we now go all the way down to under 10s, so there are more junior teams than before. We have 1 or 2 new teams enter the leagues every year. There is more played in school these days which helps to get the youngsters involved”.

If you want to find a team near you, you should access the website www.southwalesbasketball.leaguerepublic.com where you can find club contact details.

You can also contact South Wales Basketball on Facebook and someone will be happy to reply and guide you to which club would be best for you.
