Pontardawe CC 1st’s 143-8 (40 overs)
GWR Bridgend CC 1st’s 66 All Out (22 overs)

Pontardawe CC 1st’s win by 77 runs

GWR Bridgend captain won the toss and elected to bowl first.
A very windy day over looking the sea was always going to be a big factor in this game. Pontardawe got off to a quick start reaching 28-0 off just 6 overs until they lost their first wicket of the day when Raj Vakil was bowled. The third batsman Adrian Lock took to the crease and it was from here that the runs kept coming for the away side. A partnership was building between opening batsmen Sean Harris and Adrian Lock and it was at drinks that Pontardawe reached 73-1 off 20 overs.

A change in the bowling attack from GWR Bridgend after drinks seemed to work for the home side as the runs slowed up and a few wickets fell. Pontardawe lost 3 quick wickets going from 77-1 to 85-4 in the space of 4 overs. Opening batsmen Sean Harris (38), Nik Joshi (0) and Mark Williams (0) all lost their wickets. Third batsmen Adrian was still at the crease and kept the runs ticking over for the away side. Another wicket fell on 32 overs with Pontardawe on 105-5 with Jeff Hapgood being bowled for 9. Adrian scored a few more runs before eventually being bowled for 46 runs. A good strong innings from the batsmen. A few more quick wickets fell and at the end on the Pontardawe innings, they finished on 143-8 off 40 overs.

After tea the wind seemed to calm down a little which may have helped the bowling side. An early wicket by Nik Joshi bowling the opening GWR Bridgend batsman out and the home side finding themselves on 13-1 off 5 overs. This seemed to be the platform for the afternoon as Jeff Hapgood took the second wicket after a fantastic catch at gully By Nik Joshi. A change of bowling attack by Pontardawe captain Jason Rourke by bringing himself on worked wonders as he took 2 wickets in 2 balls by bowling both batsmen out. This left him on a hat trick ball but unfortunately the next GWR Bridgend batman managed to prevent the hat trick happening. Two more wickets fell being taken by Jeff Hapgood who finished his bowling spell with figures of 8 overs, 3 maidens, 15 runs, 3 wickets. At this point the home side found themselves on 40-6 off 16 overs. Jason Rourke continued his bowling spell and again took another 2 wickets in the same over with two great catches by wicket keeper Sean Harris leaving GWR Bridgend on 41-8 off 17 overs. The home side scored a few more runs and were on 66-8 when Jason again took 2 consecutive wickets in 2 balls and bowling GWR Bridgend all out for 66 off 22 overs. This left Pontardawe captain Jason Rourke with great bowling figures of 5.3 overs, 12 runs for 6 wickets. A fine bowling display by the Pontardawe Captain.

Next weekend Pontardawe CC 1st’s are home to Llandeilo CC 1st’s and Pontardawe CC 2nd’s make the short journey away to Ynystawe CC 3rd’s.
