Pontardawe CC 1st’s win by 3 wickets

Pontardawe Captain Jason Rourke won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The game started off at a slow pace with not many runs being scored. Pontardawe made an early break through in the third over with a perfectly bowled ball by Jason bowling out Briton Ferry Steels opening batsman. The away side scored a few runs after this and reached 68-1 at drinks.

After drinks Briton Ferry Steel put on the runs but also wickets fell at the same and at the end of their innings they reached the total of 150-8 off their 40 overs. Other wickets for Pontardawe were taken by Mark Williams (2), Phil Begley (2), Lloyd Jenkins (2) and a run out.

After teas and like the first batting innings Pontardawe made a slow start to their run chase and lost an early wicket in the second over when opening batsman Sean Harris was caught and bowled. A few more runs were scored when the home side lost their second wicket when Lloyd Jenkins lost his wicket for 2 runs. At drinks Pontardawe had lost another wicket and were currently on 67-3. At this point the game was evenly balanced.

After drinks the home side reached 90 runs when quick wickets fell and found themselves on 90-6 and still needing 61 runs to win with 13 overs and 4 wickets remaining. The Pontardawe captain then took to the crease and made a 27 partnership with Jonathan Howells. However this partnership was broken when Jonathan was caught behind with him being on 22. At this point Pontardawe still needed 27 runs with 6 overs and 3 wickets remaining. A tense finish was on the cards. Rob Pick took to the crease and some good team work kept Jason on strike. A few more runs were scored and with 3 overs remaining, Captain Jason Rourke played a perfectly timed shot down to fine leg and going for 4 runs and winning the game for Pontardawe.
