More than 400 children from nine junior Welsh clubs took to the track and the runways to represent their club at the third round of competition at the Welsh Junior Louise Arthur League West Division for under 11, under 13 and under 15 age groups (Saturday 29th June)
Having already visited Haverfordwest and Carmarthen on the two Bank Holiday Weekends in May, the third fixture of four saw the biggest turnout to date in general so far this campaign.
A venue that will be hosting the SIAB Schools International in Wales later this month, all roads led to Swansea University Athletics Track. Welsh Schools, English Schools, Irish Schools and Scottish Schools will go head to head on 20th July but at the Welsh Junior League, it was all about grassroots competition and introducing youngsters to a variety of track and field disciplines.
League leaders Swansea Harriers welcomed athletes, spectators, coaches and officials from the Pembrokeshire Harriers, Carmarthen Harriers, Neath Harriers, Llanelli AAC, Bridgend AC, Pontyclun AC, Barry & Vale Harriers and Brecon AC to the University Sports Village facility on Ashleigh Road near Sketty.
The fourth and final fixture sees the nine clubs head to Cwrt Herbert Athletics Track in Neath on the final Saturday in July (27th July), where the Carmarthenshire clubs will be looking to finish on a high.
This year’s Cup and Plate Finals will take place again at Swansea University Athletics Track over the weekend of August 24th and 25th. After the four league matches upcoming, the top teams will go into the cup final whilst the plate final will be occupied by those in the fourth to seventh positions.
