Nathaniel MG Welsh Cup Round 1
Undy FC 2 Cwmamman Utd 2 ( Cwm win 5-4 on penalties)
Cwmamman stunned Undy in the first round of the Nathaniel MG League Cup with a last minute equaliser before coming out on top 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout. It was a tight match with Undy overall getting the edge on possession and the creation of chances.
Undy started brightly but the Blues then enjoyed an excellent 20 min spell with Luke Williams, Ryan Hurlow and Sam Harrison all having half chances. With Ross Morgan and Sean Howells probing well it looked promising. Undy then stepped up a gear and a poor clearance saw a tricky shot across goal get prodded in for 1-0.
The second half started with Undy having the better of the exchanges and Rob Jones and Nathan Davies at the centre of the defence were working overtime while the trickly wingers were causing Calem Rees and Olly Diamond problems. The second goal seemed inevitable and another weak clearance saw a ball put to the centre forward’s feet where he turned and rifled home.
A great save by James Kirkwood on a one on one prevented the third and to their credit Cwm picked up their game and made a number of substitutions. The hard working Chrissy Allen , Ryan Hurlow and Sean Howells were replaced by Ashley Curtis, Stevie Evans and Rob Morgans and on the 70th minute a driving run by Harrison saw his inside pass to Curtis deflected into the net. Cwm were back and continued to press. It seemed it was not going to happen until Nathan Davies unmarked at a corner headed home to great scenes.
This year the new rules see it go straight to penalties and in a nerve jangling finale Williams, Evans, Morgans and Diamond slotted home. A superb save from Kirkwood meant Harrison needed to score for victory. Calmly he put it away to joyous scenes. The prize is a trip on Saturday to Richmond park to play premier league Carmarthen Town.
